Questions about primary

For all of you who are serving in primary, have recently, or have kids in it right now:

Do the kids only sing the songs for the program all year? Do they ever get to sing anything else? That's what's happening in our primary right now, and I feel the kids are missing out, but maybe it's like that everywhere. Please comment and let me know what your primaries are like. What about classroom decorations?

That is mostly what we sing with a few welcome songs, birthday songs, and sometimes the reverance song is not on the list. I think music leaders have to hit it hard until October or whenever the program is and then they can relax a bit and sing other songs.

For some reason, they aren't doing the program here until around Christmas. That's the way it's been since we've moved here anyway, so the kids never get to sing anything else.

As far as I remember, Our primary sang the difficult songs at throughout the year, and slowly added the others. So for the beginning of the year we were singing mostly random songs with a few program songs and then about a month before the program they would be singing mostly program songs. One of the best ideas that our primary came up with my last year there was to make a CD of the program songs for each family and ask the parents to play the CD for thier kids a lot throughout the week. The kids seemed to pick up on the songs a lot better and quicker.

Yeah, they all got a CD. They are just hammering the same songs every week, and the kids are bored.

I'm not sure about the music, I was a teacher, but went to Relief Society first hour. But, we had no class room decorations. I'm not sure why.

Hey, I am not sure what your calling is in the primary, but i don't think it would be out of line to ask the pres or music teacher to chake it up or at least sing a few seasonal peices, say the kids NEED IT. good luck.
